Public Key Fingerprints

Each and every public key in the world has a unique fingerprint, just like you have unique fingerprints on your fingers. By checking to make sure that the fingerprint of the public key in your possession matches the fingerprint of the intended recipient, you can safely send email to that person.

The exact steps to take to do this vary with each program and environment, but the steps are described when we discuss how to use each individual program.
