Default Shun the Frumious Bandersnatch

This guy is a volleyball whose equipment (foldable jub-jub birds) tunes him to a particular stat.

He also does things in response to you using combat skills. It varies by skill, and only applies to base class skills (starting and guild.)

There's also a kind of easter egg function, whereby if you start a combat with Ode to Booze active, you can get a number of free run-aways per day up to the Bandersnatch's weight / 5.

... I'm going to pee off the wine I just drank. When I come back, I want something in this thread that says "yes, this is the March FotM".

That is all.

If this means visiting the cake arena will become optimal, it will be a very strange day.

So is this the IotM for March or something? I'm a bit confused...

Looks like Jick meant to post this in a secret forum so he could move it here when the familiar is released, or in a secret dev forum for them to read.

Ooopsie!

As long as they don't hit the delete button on the database AND somehow blow up the building housing the backups...we should be okay.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

------

So, how about an easter egg if you have a vorpal sword equipped?

Naw, gold is very mallable, so it's easy to fix.

Yes, I know it's spelled malleable.

This sounds so good that, Jick must still be fucking wasted out of his mind. The only reason he's even able to type coherently (or log on the internet, for that matter) is because of the pure literary, text-based awesome that flows from his fingertips. He probably didn't even write that spoiler consciously; he probably passed out and his Magick Fingerz filled in the blanks.

Actually, now that I've been thinking about it, it's not as overpowered as it initially sounds. The pixie, llama, or putty are all better, this is just so different it seems game-breaking. But it's not really.

Yeah, why don't you look at the post before the one you quoted?

Yay for free runaways! Y'know I thought the familiar was supposed to be released late, not early!

About time you guys worked a solid jabberwocky reference into the game. I've only been waiting for that, ohhh... five-ish years now. If this turns out to be a misfired hangover post rather than "see what people think", I will start a riot on the 1st.

By "free run away" I'm assuming you mean it won't cost an adventure to escape. That's pretty awesome.

This looks like a pretty situationally powerful familiar. Have to wait and see on how the focusing mechanic works exactly before anything else can be judged (like whether it will be worth it in some situations to get the equipment for it), but the potential is there for more in the way of strategic decisions.
