I want to use PGP

There are several different versions of PGP for Linux. Most Linux users seem to prefer to use version 5.0, since it is the latest version of PGP which is distributed in source code form. There are some newer versions (the latest as of this writing is 6.5.1) which are distributed only in binary form; and there are some older versions (primarily versions 2.6.x) which are still in widespread use.

For the purposes of this document, we will assume that you are using PGP version 5.0. If you use a newer version, the instructions will probably be very similar. If you choose to use PGP 2.6, however, you should be aware that there are many incompatibility issues between PGP 2.6 and PGP 5, which are too complex for this document.
