Debian GNU/Linux

If you are running any version of Debian GNU/Linux older than the most current stable release (as of August 2000, this is version 2.2 or "potato"), then you should first update to the most recent stable version. If for some reason you wish to remain on an older version of Debian, then you should follow the instructions to build GPG from source code.

Here is a table that summarizes your options:

Debian version Options
older than 2.2
  • upgrade to Debian 2.2
  • build GPG from source code
2.2
  • install GPG 1.0.1 manually
  • install GPG 1.0.1 with dselect or apt-get
  • build GPG from source code
unstable
  • install GPG 1.0.3 manually
  • install GPG 1.0.3 with dselect or apt-get
  • build GPG from source code
